• payment gateway (from Iridium)
• merchant account (from HBOS)

Reasons to choose this method:

• Lowest gateway charges - Iridium gateway only costs £20 per month for 350 transactions per month, lower than any other provider.
• Low credit and debit card fees for online sales - these are volume/value dependent rates between 2.5% to 3.5% (30p to 40p for debit cards).
• No set up fees
• Merchant account is funded ENTIRELY from transaction activity (£20 per month minimum spend - ie free for volumes over aproximately £700 per month)

Reasons not to use your existing merchant account and process as Cardholder Not Present (CNP):

• Merchant card scheme rules (see your account terms and conditions) specify that CNP sales are mail order and telephone orders only
• Cardholder sales require chip and pin processing
• Internet sales do not have any personal contact with the customer and so are viewed as more at risk of chargebacks
• Contravening card scheme rules risks loss of your merchant account and the possibility of having one in the future (this would mean never being able to accept credit or debit card payments FOR LIFE)
