Traquair House
Traquair House - Brewery and Gift Shop

Traquair House was originally a castle owned by the kings of Scotland. It later became the home of the Earls of Traquair and is still lived in by their decendants, the Maxwell Stuart family. It is well known as the oldest inhabited and most romantic house in Scotland.

Secluded in woodland gardens and forest less than 30 miles south of Edinburgh, Traquair stands serene; this is one place in Scotland you will always remember with happy affection.

In 1566 Mary Queen of Scots stayed here, and so did Prince Charles Edward Stuart in 1745. Today Traquair has one of the oldest breweries in Britain, is open to the public, you can stay for bed and breakfast and even get married at Traquair.

In these pages we hope to convey a sense of the unique presence of this ancient house; a family home with a fascinating past and vibrant present.
